This is a stupid trend!

Eastern Washington decided to follow the trend that was started by Boise State, the color Turf craze. Boise State has the “Smurf Turf” and now Eastern Washington has decided to make a field of red.ept_sports_ncaaf_experts-167634974-1264688002

This is probably one of the dumbest trends that has ever started. How could anyone think that this is a good idea. I hate watching Boise State play at home, simply because of their field. The blue turf looks horrible on HD and far worse on standard def. The only reason that I can think of why another school would want colored turf, is that in some strange reason they think that it will create a winner from their program.  The NCAA doesn’t have any rules against colored fields but they might have to if it gets out of control. What other colors would be cool,  the Oregon Ducks, wait for it, having a green field. This is a funny thing to get your school recognized and before Boise started to win Bowl games they had the color of their field to get them notoriety. I will sadly admit that the red field if it is done right could actually look pretty awesome.

Taking a cue from Boise State’s famous blue turf, Eastern Washington is planning to install an artificial red playing surface inside its football stadium. The Big Sky program’s official school colors are red and white.

Former EWU star Michael Roos, now in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, has pledged $500,000 toward the “Red Turf Project.” School officials in Cheney hope to raise additional private money and have the field installed for the 2010 season.

“There is no doubt that one of Boise State’s claims to fame has been their blue turf and like it or dislike it, it has certainly brought them a tremendous amount of notoriety,” EWU athletic director Bill Chaves said. “In a similar vein we have a tremendous opportunity at Eastern to do the same by differentiating ourselves with the red turf while providing a superior playing surface.”
