Talking NBA!

People are filled with unrealistic hopes when it comes to talking about LeBron James. The Dallas Mavericks are in the running now, okay that’s what the fans of the Mavericks are hoping. They have started up a website lebrontothemavs.com. You have to love the picture with LeBron wearing a Dallas jersey.

They try to make their case for him to move to the “Big D” and this is what they came up with; a chance to play with Kidd and Dirk, no state income tax, the Dallas Cowboys, etc. Even Mark Cuban gave the fan created site props on his twitter page.

The problem with this scenario is that the Mavs are way over the cap. They are hoping that the Cavaliers will do a sign and trade with them, like that would happen. The Cavs would be better off from the business side to let LeBron to walk, instead of shipping out the hometown kid.

The most interesting article that has come out in a long time about LeBron’s impact on the NBA was in the USA Today.  They have an article on the impact of the Cavaliers early exit from the playoffs on playoff tickets.

“Average ticket prices for the Orlando Magic’s home games in the secondary resale market ‘dropped immediately’ to $154 from $177 when the playoff opponent was the Boston Celtics, says Russell D’Souza, co-chief executive officer of SeatGeek. According to StubHub, fans are paying an average of $178 for tickets to the upcoming two games in Boston. (Fans are trying to buy NBA Finals tickets with the Celtics up 2-0 on the Magic.) Ticket prices for both clubs are less than the average in the secondary market for the Western Conference finals, $372 for Los Angeles Lakers home games and $202 for Suns’ games in Phoenix. D’Souza attributes the Eastern drop-off directly to the King without a ring. ‘There was a lot of excitement this was his year,’ D’Souza says of James. Christian Anderson of FanSnap says average resale ticket prices for Orlando’s home games were down to $204 from $275 from a year ago against James’s Cavs in the conference finals. For Tuesday’s Game 2, tickets were available for as low as $60, Anderson says.”

This goes with the regular season as well, Boston, Los Angeles and Cleveland tickets were always the most expensive tickets when they came into town.  But this shows how important a player can be in the NBA, proves that this is a star driven league and what a shame.

There is a rumor that Phil Jackson has been asked to take a paycut from $12 million to $5 million if he coaches the Lakers next year. I know that $12 million is a lot to pay for a coach but we are talking about Jackson and the Lakers are one of the franchises in the league that can pay a lot for the best coach in the league. The Zen master is worth at least a million for every championship he has led his team to and that’s more then 5.

The report is that the Philadelphia 76ers have found their next head coach…drum roll please……Doug Collins.  The formal announcement could come tomorrow at the earliest and the formal press conference on Monday.

It is pretty amazing that the 76ers hired their first interview and has always been seen as the front runner but I don’t really know why. He has been a coach for the Bulls, Pistons and Wizards but has been a broadcaster for a while and I don’t know if he can really make them that great of team.
