Nevada sophomore Luke Babbitt hires agent

Luke Babbit ended his collegiate career at the University of Nevada today by hiring an agent and entering the NBA draft. He has a lot of potential, being a 6-foot-9,225 pound forward. Babbitt was the Western Athletic Conference player of the year, ninth in the nation in scoring  this past season averaging 21.9 points per game. But is he ready for the NBA?

I said before the basketball season ended that I didn’t think that Babbitt was mature enough as a player to make the leap to the pros. I am shocked that he hired an agent, I thought that he would test the waters and find that he wasn’t going to go that high in this years draft and go back to UNR for his junior season.

Babbitt makes too many mistakes, takes a lot of bad shots, and isn’t that great of a ball handler. Babbitt also feasted on being in the WAC and playing against smaller and less athletic power forwards.

My main beef with Babbitt’s game is that he settles for the mid-range jumper far to much.  He has never made more then 2 threes in a game and struggles from beyond the arc shooting a terrible 36%.

He isn’t very athletic and that gets him in trouble when the defense crowds the paint. His slow lateral speed also makes him a liability on defense. He struggles to stay in front of smaller players.

Look for Babbitt to struggle for a few years trying to sure up his jump shot and hopefully learning some new moves to create space for his shot.
