D’Backs Sign Outfielder to 6-year Deal
Mar 2nd, 2010 | By Adam Rasmussen | Category: MLBJustin Upton is a happy man today in the desert. The 22-year-old outfielder agreed to a six-year contract worth roughly $50 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks.Upton hit .300 with 26 home runs and 86 RBIs in 2009 for Arizona. This is a great deal on both sides. The Diamondbacks lock down their offensive franchise player until he is 28, and Upton gets financial security.
Upton has a lot of potential to be a great outfielder the league, and the sky is the limit for his production output. This deal is similar to what Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun signed (8 years $45 million). Both the franchise and the player came out on top with this extension.
